April 9, 2009 Work Session


Biz has evaluated equipment - trucks need servicing.  Oil dirty, water drained.

Product services rep (Gale) will be here later today.

Applications are coming in.  Biz has interviewed a few but will not be able to interview them all (more than 20).  Hiring date moved to Wednesday April15.

Training opportunities - Biz is prepared to do the basic training.  OtterTail will do some training.  Biz to decide how to best make use of their expertise.

Brandon will show Biz the sites.

Logo - Biz meeting with Lasting Impressions to get logo.

Tara suggested the crew have trash bags and pick up trash while they're scouting.

Biz is setting up shop at the Shed and will have the computer out there.

2 backpack sprayers work; 7 are kluged together and should be replaced.  Biz authorized to purchase 3 more so that we have a full complement.

Biz suggested bear spray for warding off animal attacks.

Accounts:  Paonia Farm and Home, Ace Hardware (Hotchkiss), Napa Auto Parts, Dependable Lumber (?) need to update list of authorized users.  Gordon can provide more complete list.

Tony Stilwell will contact Biz after the Mosquito Convention.

Biz met with Michael Soule regarding site mitigation and suggested a meeting with Board members and interested landowners later in April.

Biz looking into leasing GPS units.  She will ask other agencies.

Biz meeting with Mike Smolen and Viva Kellogg regarding trapping.

Biz wrote a protocol for handling complaints.

Pruners need to be sharpened - Kris will do so.

Discussed taking foggers off trucks used for larviciding.  We will probably need to keep two foggers in, but others can be removed.  Biz will ask Gale about how easy they are to hook up and disconnect.

Biz is revising the employee manual and integrating info from the Grand River District manual.

Radios work.  Do we need radio licenses?  Biz will investigate.

Discussed contents of Board reports.

We will collect a list of people who wish to be notified of spray events.  Biz will check with State Health Dept. for list of chemically sensitive people in our District to be added to the list.
