July 27, 2009 Work Session

Gordon gave updated financial figures - includes July's 3rd payroll.  He has removed the S-10 truck from our insurance as it will not be used the rest of the season.
Collections of property taxes are slower this year.  We should expect a little less money than we had budgeted to spend due to less revenue than expected.

We went over profit/loss YTD vs. budget to see where we could trim if we need to.  Most items fairly close.  Biz has spent less on supplies than budgeted and thinks she will have enough product to finish the season.

Rosemary reports Neil Schweiderman was out on the town park all three days during the BMW rally and didn't see a single mosquito.

All traps in Hotchkiss but one have fewer mosquitoes than last week.  We will ask the crew to check that block for as yet unknown sites.

Fairgrounds -

Traps were set 3 extra nights at the fairgrounds.  Numbers are high in the woods near the river (and coming down), but fairly low in the arena and almost nil in the park area.  Board discussed whether to fog before the fair.  Mixed views.  Our trap numbers are better than some in Mesa and Delta Counties, but there are Culex in the wooded areas and we want fairgoers to have a pest-free time.  Board voted 3-2 to fog in areas recommended by Biz pending Kris and Kevin's landing count tonight and trap numbers from tonight.  Notification by website, KVNF, flyers in town businesses.  Final decision will be made by phone and/or e-mail tomorrow.

Kevin may have someone who will donate the use of a GPS unit so we can more accurately pinpoint sites.  Then they could be found more easily by anyone with a handheld unit for future seasons.
