June 12, 2009 Work Session

Tara reported on the Special District workshop

New crew member on board and doing well.  Few calls so far, but they are responded to promptly with good results.
Kevin and Biz went out to work with landowners who had not been allowing us on their properties in the past - most were receptive and will now allow us to enter their properties.  A few are small properties and less significant, and another can have a trap placed just outside the property. We can approach the landowner again if there are large numbers of mosquitoes nearby.

Rosemary wrote up a public service message for the organic growers email list to gather information about properties that do not wish to be sprayed with adulticides.  There are no organically certified adulticides at this point, and if one is ever approved by one organization, there are several others that people may be certified under than may not have the same list of approved products.

Trapping will start next week.  It will cost $800 in dry ice to trap for June, July, and August.  Trapping will be for the purpose of larviciding and a general check on the overall population.  Not designed for decisions about spraying.  Mike Smolen may be in Alaska this summer and so will not be involved in the trapping.  8 traps available - will set up about 30 sites per week.

Bids returned - 2 out of 3 companies responded by today's deadline.
