July 17, 2008 Operations Meeting

Bill Kolb - Product information dinner July 28
    Mel Shumway, VanDeist

Heat highly affects bacteriological products, reduces effectiveness from 7-15 days to 3-4 days.  Bill recommends VectoLex instead of VectoBac because it works longer.  XR tablets will last longer and will reactivate after they're dried and wet again.

Agenda -

OtterTail report - came in.  Should be paid.  Recommended 3 larvicide teams (6 people) plus field manager/supervisor.  For completion of contract:  need GIS coordinates, legible master copies of site cards.  Follow-up training workshop - when we get new crew?

Gary and Zane McCallister will come next week to talk about running a mosquito control program.  2:00 p.m. OK; need a place to meet. <Later decided upon upstairs at the Blue Sage> Notification - Sid Lewis asked about what to expect for town.  Need routes, spraying policy.  Daniel Gonzales asked if there could be a database of addresses that did not want spary.  Not practical - no addresses in alleys.

Habitat mitigation - Lulu and Sid will look over Apple Valley Park to find the source - trap counts there remain high despite spraying

Trapping - Viva will coordinate ordering and donating trap - $145.00.  Put up announcement on website soliciting donations of equipment and time.

Spray Schedule - Viva will be buying 2 new traps and Lulu will buy one to add resources total to 9.  Hot spots this week - south of Main Street, Apple Valley, High School.  Need fogging routes.  Kevin will try to download GPS data.  For next year, we can get equipment to monitor routes and where the fog was turned on.

Staffing - Michael will ask about OtterTail providing field manager, but he figures the cost will be 2-3 times higher than if we hired one ourselves.  Brief Executive session re/ personnel. Agreement made to advertise for larviciders and field manager - Kevin will write and put up ads.

Work Comp claim - Claim will go forward, and they will pay for WNV testing.  They will establish testing regimen up to six months.

GIS locations - We would like GPS locations for all sites.

Product ordering - Kris authorized to order what is needed.
