The Paonia Mosquito Control Board would like to move toward collecting and using trapping data to inform us about the effectiveness of our program and to more accurately target outbreaks of either nuisance or disease-carrying mosquitoes. This page can be used for coordinating our efforts and sharing data and resources with other agencies as well as volunteers who would like to help us in our efforts. Please add your comments if you have access to mosquito traps and would like to contribute equipment, labor, and/or data to the mosquito board's efforts.

Michael,
As I mentioned before I would be willing to site a trap on either of my properties in Hotchkiss (229 West Bridge) or (159 W. Main). Both are fenced and are in central Hotchkiss. The rear of the bookstore property might be best since it is darker back there and is closer to the swampy breeding areas south of Hotchkiss Avenue.
if you could provide traps (whatever Ken Nordstrom is using to assure some uniformity of trapping data) at cost, and they are semi-reasonable I would be willing to purchase and monitor my own perhaps as part of something I could write up for the Herald. Of course I would need some training in specific species indentification At least we could get local specific mosquito numbers and indentify the percentage of culex present as they begin to appear. Perhaps volunteer trapping could be folded into Ken's program.
Currently I am noticing a few mosquitos in the evenings at the bookstore In Hotchkiss but nothing major yet.
